Memoirs Of Istvaan

10,000 years ago at the beginning of the horus heresy four legions of Adeptus Astartes attempted to purge the loyalist elements in their ranks. At Istvaan III loyal members of the Sons of Horus, Death Guard, World eaters, and Emperors Children, mostly Terran marines from before the discovery of Horus, Mortarion, Angron and Fulgrum were sent to quell rebellion and then virus bombed. Were it not for the quick actions of Emperors Children captain Saul Tarvitz all would have been lost in the initial bombing but thanks to him many loyalists were able to find shelter in bunkers and survive the bombs. Inside one such bunker a group of loyalists from all four legions lay in wait for the sign that it was safe to exit and take the fight to their brothers. Unfortunately during his legions decent to the planet one of the world eaters landing craft had crashed, blocking the exit to this bunker and trapping the 20 marines inside. As the fighting raged on, for three full months they were powerless to do anything. With supplies running low and morale even lower they were finally able to pry open the door just enough to get into the damaged landing craft "Angel's Fury" which had been left behind by the world eaters. The craft though small did possess a warp engine, and also a homing beacon that could lead them to its parent ship. The 20 marines set out from Istvaan in hopes of performing stealth attacks on the main traitor armada but unfortunately none of the 20 possessed the navigator gene to allow for safe warp travel and the became moored in a warp eddie.

As they lingered in the warp various demons breached the hull of the ship each type of demon trying to convert the loyal men inside to the same cause as their traitor brothers. Plague bearers descended on the death guard crew, Daemonettes on the Emperors Children, Bloodletters on the World Eaters and Chaos Undivided Furies on the Luna wolves crew. Just as all was though lost a shining yellow orb appeared to the crew and banished the Daemons. The orb spoke to the four leaders among the crew stating "I am, Emperor of man and for you my most loyal sons I have a mission." the emperors projection then spoke to them about how they had been stranded for 10,000 years and that though Horus had failed the Emperor had been mortally wounded and placed upon a golden throne to oversee the empire of man and the light of the astronomicon.

He tasked them with the exact mission they had hoped he would hunting down and killing their former brothers.

Memoirs of Istvaan was the new name the marines selected for the landing craft that bore them and also the name they selected for their group, and since appearing in the 41st millennium they have been known to show up to a world besieged by Chaos Marines, destroy the heretics and leave as quickly as they came. Only a few times have they been spotted long enough to warrant further investigation and in all cases Imperial forces have believed them to be agents of chaos. Beset on all sides by enemies and with no one to trust but each other they make their way across the galaxy in search of those who sought to kill them so many years ago.

As you can see I have plenty more Vorthos to do to this roster and as that progresses I plan to edit this post to reflect that. I've been doing research via Lexicanum and from what I was able to determine the Terran members of the Luna Wolves came from areas around Persia, the emperors children were drawn from European nobility, the Death guard from the English, and the World eaters from all over Terra but focusing on more aggressive individuals so my plan for them is to pick names from a variety of cultural backgrounds that sound like they could belong to an aggressive man..
